Annual General Meeting

The Hertfordshire CILEx Branch is pleased to give notice of the Branch Annual General Meeting. Drinks (white wine), teas, coffees, sandwiches, nibbles and other 'goodies' will be provided, for socialising post AGM; all free.
We would urge as many of you that can attend, please try and do so, as all the Branch Offices are 'up for grabs'; the current office holders and obliged to stand for re-election. The minimum Branch Officer posts are those of Chair, Secretary and Treasurer. Herts Branch also (currently) elects a Vice Chair and Social Secretary, To stand for Chair, the applicant has to be either a Fellow (who may also be qualified as a solicitor, provided that they remain a fully paid up member of CILEx), a Graduate or an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute. The posts of Secretary, Treasurer and any other Officers can be from any category of CILEx Membership.
If you wish to stand for a post, we would be grateful if you could please give us prior notice.

CILEx National Awards 2019

The CILEx National Awards were launched in 2018, the celebrate the exceptional talent, innovation and achievement of CILEx members, supporters and stakeholders.
We are delighted to announce that this year's host will be Claudia Winkleman, one of the best-known broadcasters in the UK, who regularly fronts the live television shows for both Red Nose Day and Sport Relief, as well as her regular hosting of Strictly Come Dancing.
The CILEx National Awards showcase and celebrate the excellent work, and achievements, of CILEx members, supporters and stakeholder partners.
These exclusive awards recognise individuals, organisations and teams that are providing exemplary service, advice and support to those seeking access to justice. Celebrating the innovative recruitment and professional development practice that are widening access to a career in the legal profession to a more diverse audience.
CILEx has been celebrating the achievements of its members, as well as their employers and partners for many years. We are proud to formally celebrate what we have always known: that we support and represent a wealth of talented people and organisations. We will be acknowledging those who are leading the way in an ever changing, forward thinking, professional legal services sector and whose work closely aligns to our mission, our vision and our values.

University of Hertfordshire are offering CPD sessions on topics covering the compulsory ‘professional element’ required in the annual CPD scheme. Topics on offer:
- Refreshing your knowledge and understanding of professional ethics, including the Code of Conduct
- Improving knowledge of primary business in which your clients work (business awareness)
- Developing an understanding of the issues which may affect your clients (social awareness)
- Developing your client communication skills
- Improving your skills dealing with challenging clients
- Refreshing your knowledge and understanding of diversity issues
- Improving your time management skills.
If you are interested in any of the sessions above please email us the topic of interest, plus any preference when you would like these lectures to take place. The branch committee is prepared in principle to use some of the branch funds to defray the cost of putting these lectures on.

On 31 January the Hertfordshire Branch held its Annual General Meeting at the University of Hertfordshire. The evening began with a speech by Branch Chair Roger Ralph who talked about the affiliation with the University of Hertfordshire and how well this pilot project is running, as well as providing a recap of all Branch events and activities in 2017. Committee members were elected and re-elected, with Roger Ralph returning as Chair, David Edwards returning as Vice Chair, Andrew Dunkley returning as Branch Treasurer, Anthea Powell returning as Branch Secretary and Nina Roby elected as Social Secretary.
CILEx President Millicent Grant was in attendance and gave a speech about how CILEx was progressing as an organisation. CILEx CEO Linda Ford was also in attendance and gave an excellent speech about the CILEx is Changing campaign, the new Board structure and the new brand identity, amongst other things.
After the event a buffet dinner and drinks were provided and people networked and enjoyed themselves.
Careers Fair - Reach Free School
Roger Ralph and Nina Roby from the Hertfordshire Branch attended a careers fair at the Reach Free School as part of the 'Inspire the Future' programme. The stand proved very popular, with 49 expressions of interest. Overall it was a very successful event. We were thanked by the school for our participation in the event and were invited back next year!
St Albans Legal Walk
The branch members took part in the St Albans Legal Walk. We topped the league ! We were the smallest team but raised the most money...a fantastic £522.50!
