We are pleased to announce that the Brighton Branch won 'New Branch of the Year' at the 2017 Branch Personnel Day!
Laura Karpinski, Chair of the Brighton branch commented: “Starting up a new CILEx branch has been a great opportunity to meet other CILEx members in the local area and improve awareness of CILEx. Over the past two years we have held activities ranging from giving presentations at local colleges and universities and CPD training sessions for members, through to drinks on Brighton seafront with the CILEx president. It has been a real roller-coaster but very rewarding”.
Annual General Meeting
We held our Annual General Meeting on 29 March 2018 at Jury's Inn, Brighton. It was attended by 5 people, including Chris from Head Office. A new Committee was elected and we had some very productive discussions about the future of the Branch.
Schools and Colleges
Our branch members have been out visiting local schools and colleges to promote the CILEx option to students. We frequently attend careers events and have good contacts in local schools and colleges.
If you are interested in helping out, please let us know. You can also sign up to the Inspiring the Future website which connects schools and colleges with potential visitors who are willing to talk to students about their job: http://www.inspiringthefuture.org/.
In case you missed the announcement on this, CILEx have opened up a new service through their website called myCareer. It is totally free to use, just log in to myCILEx and click the link on the right of the page. It includes tips on CVs and applications, interviewing, job hunting, business skills etc and also has tools like a career planner, mock interview simulator etc.
See their introductory video here: http://www.cilex.org.uk/membership/mycareer
LawCare is a service that supports the mental health and wellbeing of legal community. They have a helpline which is free to access. CILEx as well as the other regulatory bodies make a contribution towards the running of this so it's already paid for.
It is open 7 days per week, including weekday evenings until 7.30pm. The people taking the calls are all either practising or retired lawyers, so they know what it's like to work in the profession. They can help with a range of things, including stress, bullying, depression, anxiety, disciplinary proceedings etc. All calls are entirely confidential and you do not need to give them any information about yourself if you don't want to.
For more information see their website: https://www.lawcare.org.uk/
